Semester

Wow was a Semester, its went by so fast. It feels like yesterday when i heard about how hard this class was going to be. They were not lying at all. Im not going to lie, this class is killer to my grades. I dont know what it is but it always seems like I have a ton of work to do in this class, and it always more then others. I dont no if yall feel that way but I do.

Ok…..so we started the year off with Post Colonialism, such as Heart of Darkness, which is a very Modernist novel that deals with alot of Colonialism. We then movd right on to Literary criticism like Feminist, and Marxist. We them moved right along in to the Victorian time period, and read Dr. Jekyll. After Dr. Jekyll we finidh out this challenging semester with Romanticism, with this we read Frankenstein, which is a really good novel and everyone should read it.

Looking back on the year, yes we had a ton of work to do and yes it killed my grade. but I think I have learned more English in a Semester then I have all my life.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein was a good book I thought. At first, I didnt want to read it at all but when we had to do our first letter was looking through the chapters for somthing inportant to write, as I was reading the paragraph started to sound pretty good to me, so I said what the heck, I might as well read it.

It was a really good book I thought. The thing I didn’t like about it was the fact that at the end of the book Victor kind of just died off and the monster just walked away into the wood, i dont like that, I wasnt expecting it either. I think the book would have been so much better if the monster and victor would have gotten into a fight or if Frankenstein and another monster would have fought. But oh well all in all it was a good book.

Romantic Writings

“Preface to Lyrical Ballads”, was amazing. I like how it seems to be wrote to the normal person, so that everyone can understand it. It doesn’t seem to have a whole bunch of words that someone cant understand. I also like how the author has a different style that people don’t really see that much, he is able to produce something that people haven’t really seen before, it amazing. With the way he writes this it is almost as if he is protecting his work, like he thinks people are going to criticize it.

In my mind the way he writes, even in the preface, like his word choose and his use of the theme of nature, I would categorize him definitely  as a romantic writer. “He considers man and nature as essentially adapted to each other, and the mind of man as naturally the mirror of the fairest and most interesting qualities of nature”. I mean wow, thats an amazing quote, and it means a lot.
